Backstreet Boys at Liverpool's Echo Arena

WHEN the opportunity arose to look cheesey 90s chart toppers the Backstreet Boys return on their tour I couldn’t resist.
Who cares that they’re the latest bleached popstrels to cash in on the recent fondness for nostalgia? I used to worship their dance moves.
Trouble is, I could only remember one song - despite owning the album Backstreet’s Back on cassette - so when they opened with that oh-so-catchy title track Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) - complete with ‘that’ dance move - I was worried.
“What will they do for the rest of the show?” I muttered to my friend, who shares my boy band pedigree.
“No fear,” she replied. “It will all come flooding back.”
And so it did. Worringly easily.
Hearthrob Nick Carter (minus the blond curtains - likely for the best) A.J, Howie and Brian whizzed through hits including As Long As You Love Me, All I Have To Give, We’ve Got It Going On and that hands-in-the-air favourite, I’ll Never Break Your Heart.
Oh no. Just mentioning those songs gives me an urge to sing.
And that’s why the Backstreet Boys - touring without original fifth member Kevin - were unashamedly superb at the ECHO Arena last night, playing to a near sell out crowd with just enough youngsters to give them serious hope for the future.

Backstreet Boys "This is Us" album

There are so many terrible puns to choose from when describing the latest Backstreet Boys comeback effort that it’s hard to pick just one.
The obvious with to begin, Backstreet’s Back again. Rising from the boy band craze of the '90s and still going strong into the 21st century, the Boys’ sixth album This is Us has arrived, much to the delight of the throngs of die-hard BSB fans, more than ten years after the beginnings of their teeny-bopper obsessions with the five dreamy boys.
It seems, however, that the Backstreet sound has changed. Most of the songs are focused in an electronic, club-oriented direction and don’t quite sound like classic boy-band pop. If the group is looking to pick up new fans by doing this, they’re out of luck — today’s preteens are too busy drooling over the Jonas Brothers to pay any mind to the now middle-aged Backstreet members. Plus, the pair’s token heartthrob Nick Carter is decidedly much less appealing after being unfortunately contaminated by Paris Hilton in 2003.
Nevertheless, songs like “Bigger” reveal insights into the former BSB style, and the overly dramatic and painful love ballad — a boy band standard — is covered in the song “Shattered.” These glimpses into the good old days of boy band glory are what make this album enjoyable.
Stick to what you know Backstreet Boys, your fans "Want It That Way."

Backstreet Boys Are Return Again

The Backstreet Boys are return again, with a new album and tour after their 2007 record Unbreakable was released with more of a whimper rather than a bang.
Howie Dorough, 36, says the band has high hopes for its new album This Is Us, which was released last week, but for God’s sake, don’t call it a comeback!
“That’s right, we say don’t call it a comeback,” Howie tells Reuters. “But I think this is going to be a record that people hear.
“Our last two were best but came after we took a break and there was a bit of a backlash. People wanted a bit of a break from the Backstreet Boys. The last two records were a good rebuilding process and taken us to this point.”
In their 17 year history, the BBs have had their fair share of turmoil: AJ McLean went to rehab for alcohol and drug addiction in 2001 and Nick Carter was the star of the E! reality show House of Carters.
Meanwhile, Brian Littrell’s 7 year old son Baylee has been diagnosed with the heart condition Kawasaki Syndrome, and Howie lost his sister Caroline Dorough Cochran to Lupus in 1998 when she was 37.
The fifth member of the band, Kevin Richardson, left in 2006.
How have their life experiences affected the pair? “Time has not changed us but it has made us grow,” Howie says.
“We have grown into the adults we are now the fathers, the friends, the entertainers that we are now and the career minded people that we are.”
And the music? “We have a lot more to write about now with the personal experiences that have happened along the way,” says Howie.
“We have also become more seasoned as entertainers. It has opened our eyes and our minds. We’re no longer just entertainers but also businessmen and we are finding a healthy balance of career and families.”
And despite being well into their thirties, these men have no need to different their name.
Boys to us has never been an age thing,” insists Howie. “If the Beastie Boys and the Beach Boys and Pet Shop Boys can stay boys, so can we.”

Backstreet Boys' Brian Littrell: Apologizes For Cancellations Due To Swine Flu

Just as the Backstreet Boys were preparing to promote their latest album, This Is Us, word came that member Brian Littrell had been diagnosed with swine flu, prompting several upcoming promotional appearances that the band to cancel. On the roster was a performance of their single "Straight Through My Heart" on CBS' "Early Show" on Tuesday (October 6).
In a video posted Monday on YouTube, a sniffling and visibly ill Littrell apologized to his fans for missing upcoming scheduled appearances, which included a Pinktober charity event supporting breast cancer awareness at the Hard Rock Café in Times Square.
"First off, I need to say that I'm actually sorry to all of our Backstreet Boys fans, as well as I'm sorry to the Hard Rock Café and the staff there. The Backstreet Boys had a great event set up this afternoon (October 5), an autograph signing at the Hard Rock, where we were going to get the opportunity to unify with some of our fans as well as raise money for breast cancer awareness," he said. "Unfortunately I was diagnosed with the swine flu yesterday, and my job right now is to stay away from as many people as I can."
He also addressed the bandmates that his fact are recently healthy but are still undergoing preventative swine flu treatments: "On another note, the guys have been looked at by a doctor, and they're also on preventative medicine that will help them not show any signs nor get the swine flu, I hope.
"I want to again apologize and say that I'm sorry I couldn't make it again. You guys got to know what's going on. ... I hope that the next time you look at me, I will feel better, but for right now, for the next three or four days, I've got to be out of the loop. Thank you for your understanding. I'm sorry that I couldn't be there, but my job right now is to try and protect you guys from this. I hope you guys are well and I will talk to you very soon. God bless."
In 1998, Littrell, 34, underwent open heart surgery to correct a lifelong heart murmur. A spokesperson for Littrell told MTV News that his doctors are aware of his previous heart condition and heart surgery and are monitoring that as they treat him

X Factor dream ends Twins fear

Spiky haired twins John and Edward Grimes fear they might have blown their X Factor opportunity after a performance of the Backstreet Boys' I Want It That Way.
Champion the twins was Mentor Louis Walsh, despite them coming in for ridicule from several quarters, but following their performance to be aired this weekend the normally confident 17 year olds are seen crying.
Edward says: "I just feel like we go home and then it's just like 'What the hell, that's it', then that's what we're remembered for, that's the end, no."
John adds: "Yeah, like on a bad note, unbelievable bad note."
Edward agrees: "Yeah, I think we meant our best. It could have gone well and it didn't."
This weekend's episodes see the 24 remaining acts visiting the judges in exotic locations across the world, to impress their mentors with their singing talents once again.
Dannii Minogue is joined by her big sister Kylie, to help her choose which acts to take through to the next round.
Kylie is impressed by Stacey Solomon's version of the classic ballad Over The Rainbow, saying: "I sung that song every night on tour for a while and it's one you don't want to mess up but for me it was flawless."
Meanwhile, Simon Cowell's helper is singer Sinitta, who dons a daring outfit made up of some well-placed palm leaves.
Saturday's gig will air on ITV1 at 8pm and the 12 remaining finalists will be announced on Sunday night, in a programme which goes out from 8pm.

There Will Never Be An 'NSYNC Reunion, JC Chasez Says

Next week the Backstreet Boys are releasing their new album, leading many fans of the '90s boy band era to feel a bit nostalgic. And who could forget the epic battle that went on between Backstreet fans and 'NSYNC fans?
Given that Backstreet fans still get their fix of new music from the pair every few years, will 'NSYNC fans ever get a opportunity to hear some new music from the pair? JC Chasez very bluntly told MTV News that it will never happen.

"Nope," he said emphatically about any reunion tours or albums in the band's future. "I keep in touch with all of them. (We don't want to do it) because we already did that and it was fun, but we're done with it."
Chasez, who now spends his time as a judge on "America's Best Dance Crew," may not see an 'NSYNC reunion in the cards, but he did reveal, using his judging powers, who in the band had the slickest moves on the dance floor.
"I would say that was a toss up between Justin and I. We just had very different styles," he said. "Justin was very fluid and more the crooner, and I was more high energy and power."
Chasez also said that there was no competition among the bandmembers to try to out dance each other, which means that, unfortunately, there were no backstage dance offs. "No, no. We had fun. We would hang out and make stuff up," he said. "We always encouraged each other to be better. It was never competitive. If he does better, we all did better. If I did better, we all did better."

7th album to Backstreet Boys back

SINGAPORE: The Backstreet Boys are back. Here in Singapore to perform at the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, it is clear the boys are all men now. After being in the business for 16 and a half years, the Backstreet Boys have returned with their 7th album entitled, "This Is Us". The album features songs with upbeat music, like their latest single "Straight Through My Heart". The Backstreet Boys held their first Asian album preview here in Singapore currently. Brian Littrell said: "It's funny because Singapore rates up there with New York, LA and London, as well as Tokyo. We made music for music lovers, they're from eight to 80 years old they don't have to be abolescent girls, they don't have to be teenage guys, they don't have to be young, they don't have to be old. It's just people who enjoy music, that's why we make music because we are passionate about it." Despite their fame, the boys said they have dreams and aspirations, just like anyone else. "Acting for me that's how I started in this business, it was through theatre and stuff so I'm still waiting to do Broadway, at least once in my life. I would love to do Broadway, rather Phantom of the Opera. But I'll take whatever Chicago, Hairspray. I just want to do Broadway!" said AJ McLean. When asked which song they wished they had composed, Howie Dorough said: "I'd probably pick Michael Jackson's Thriller because to keep it real, those writers are making bank! They're making money! They don't have to work no more and that would be nice!" But just what keeps the Backstreet Boys going after all these years? Nick Carter said: "I think the Backstreet Boys continue on because we realised that there's only a certain amount of time that we can do this. We feel like we can continue this forever, but we're always fighting, we're pushing against the grain so to speak, so I think our inspiration is to defy the odds." The Backstreet Boys will return for their world tour early next year.

'Straight Through My Heart' Backstreet Boys

It says something about how far the Backstreets' stock has fallen in current years that they resorted to doing a promotional interview with Kate 'The Apprentice' Walsh for car-crash magazine show Live From Studio Five earlier this week. Watching Brian, Nick, Howie and AJ deal with the reality star's fits of giggles while roughly five hardcore fans stood waving banners made a rather depressing sight.Fortunately, though the glitz and glamour may have faded somewhat, musically they appear to be undergoing a rebirth. If this RedOne-produced single is a fair representation, then their upcoming album may live up its billing as the band's best since 1999's Millennium. Fans who always preferred their banging pop tracks to the syrupy ballads will certainly be satisfied with this throbbing anthem, which has a chorus just begging for some old-school BSB dance moves.

'RedOne is a big fan' to Backstreet Boys

Nick Carter has claimed that producer RedOne was a big fan of the Backstreet Boys when he was growing up.
The singer revealed that RedOne is influenced by the 'Straight Through My Heart' boyband and jumped at the chance to produce songs for their new album This Is Us.
"RedOne was really kind of like a big fan of us at the beginning, and always needed to be on our album," he told Popjustice.
"It was really cool, it was just funny how time goes by when certain people rise to the occasion, and it's their time to shine. It's just funny how life works.
"He wrote three songs for us. He just delivered amazing songs that we thought were great and recent and fresh. You know what's funny though? Even though he's worked with GaGa and all these big artists, he was such a big fan of the Ba Boysckstreet."
Carter added: "He actually tried in the very beginning, when he started to write songs that could go on our album. He studied us, and tried to write songs for us."
RedOne, real name Nadir Khayat, has also produced records for acts including New Kids on the Block, Akon, Sugababes, Enrique Iglesias, Lionel Richie and Robyn.

Backstreet Boys Are Return Again

No matter how old we get, we still have a soft spot in our heart for the Backstreet Boys. And we love that the boys have all grown up and adult and are still making music together. Here's a sneak peak at their latest song, "Straight Through My Heart."
We always say we'll never tire of the Backstreet Boys. Though they were once a major boy band, we actually think they've arranged to grow and mature through the years and we just can't help but love their music. Plus, it's what we call the perfect "treadmill music."
We have mixed feelings about their new single, "Straight Through My Heart." It's absolutely not our favorite song we've heard from them, but it's totally radio ready and we're sure it will do just fine as their first single off This is Us.
Think about all Backstreet Boys hits. We're hoping they add clean a few more with their new album. We're mostly besided because we heard they collaborated with T-Pain on their new album and we have a feeling that music is going to be amazing. This is Us is due out on October 6, and we'll absolutely give you our full review then.
How do you like the new single? Are you excited for the return of the Backstreet Boys or do you wish they would just go away?

BACKSTREET BOYS - CARTER FIGHTING FIT AGAIN AFTER HEALTH SCARE

BACKSTREET BOYS star NICK CARTER is racing back to good health after decades of drinking and partying left with a weakened heart.
The singer was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy - a build up of toxins that prevents the heart from pumping blood efficiently - after he started feeling ill in Europe on a recent Backstreet Boys tour.
And doctors told him he had to give up alcohol or risk death.
Carter, who admits to having his first taste of alcohol at two, when his parents ran an upstate New York bar, called the Yankee Rebel, says, "I had a lot of rude awakenings (about my drinking) at times, warning signs, from DUIs... I got the DUI and I realised it was wrong and so I decided to go and punish myself - go and do the classes, go do the DUI school, do the community service, do everything that I was required to do and then I would end up in a situation where I would stop for six months and then after that I would feel like it's OK to get back into it.
"But I was out on the road with the boys... about six moths ago... and I was starting to get, like, some chest pains, I was starting to feel a little uncomfortable and I figured maybe what I need to do is just kinda go and get myself checked out. I was drinking a lot and I was having a lot of anxiety.
"I went to the doctor and got a full check up... and he said, 'Listen you've got to stop. If you don't stop, this is going to get progressively worse'."
Carter stopped drinking overnight and now he's determined to beat his heart condition: "It's a condition that right now if I get it under control and I change my life, I could be healthy.
"I started replacing drinking and the parties with healthier things such as sports and playing videogames."

Backstreet Boys Albums Information

The Backstreet Boys first got success in Europe after make public of their first album in late 1995. The U.S. didn't take become aware of of the group awaiting that album was finally issued for American spectators in 1997. The Backstreet Boys travelled the top of a gesture of achievement for teen-oriented pop music. The band went on an comprehensive pause after 2000 and then returned in 2005 with the album Never Gone.

• Backstreet Boys (1997) - The debut album for the group is an attractive mix of up-tempo dance music and sweet ballads. "(Quit Playing Games) With My Heart" is a good example of the group's yearning ballad style while "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" shows off the group in dance mode. When the Backstreet Boys finally broke through in the U.S. this album reached #4 on the pop albums chart.

• Millenium (1999) - The Backstreet Boys combined their victory on this album, their first #1. It features "I Want It That Way," one of the best pop ballads of the 90's. The formula of uptempo material balanced by big ballads stayed very much the same. Other hits included "Show Me the Meaning Of Being Lonely" and "Larger Than Life."

• Black & Blue (2000) - Released at the acme of the group's success, this album debuted at #1 on the pop albums chart. unluckily, the albums for profit success was short-lived partially due to intense competition from 'N Sync for the boy band crown. The only major hit from the album was "Shape Of My Heart." The band soon went on hiatus to work on individual projects and for some members of the group to work out personal issues.

• The Hits : Chapter One (2001) - The predictable greatest hits collection came into view in 2001 collecting the best seconds from the first three albums. Many fans feared the band was completed when this set appeared.

• Never Gone (2005) - After a 4 year gap, the Backstreet Boys return. The boys are now men and the music is a bit more adult as well.

Backstreet Boys are stronger

The Backstreet Boys are not every music fan's cup of tea, but, simply put, this album contain one beautiful pop song following another. The excellently green agreement and right away agreeable melodies are a bit irresistible when taken as a whole album, so the group remains at its best as a singles band. The excellent news is that every one of these songs is radio friendly. As Timbland tops the pop singles chart with the unapologetic adult contemporary sound of Apologize it's time for radio programmers to welcome the Boys back.

Backstreet Boys Charming Truth

Ex- BACKSTREET BOYS star KEVIN RICHARDSON has put his Los Angeles mansion on the market with a listing price of $3.98 million (£2.6 million). The singer's house has four bedrooms, sweeping lawns and garden areas and a big swimming pool.

Backstreet Boys - "We've Got It Goin On" Lyrics

Everybody grove to the music
Everybody jam

Oh, hey

We've been waiting so long
Just can't hold it back no more
Creepin' up and down now
It's time for me to let it go
If you really wanna see
What we can do for you
Send the crazy wildin' static
Sing it

[Chorus:]
Jam on cuz Backstreet's got it
Come on now everybody
We've got it goin' on for years
[2x]

We've got it goin' on for years [2x]

Well I'm creepin' up on your left
Straight up funky when I get with you
Keep it ruthless when I get wet
Keep the party packed in my corner
Tough like granite to keep the crowd hype
Get up on this just to get right
What you want it what you gonna get
Backstreet's got the special effects, uh

If you really wanna see
What we can do for you, oh
I'll send the crazy wildin' static
Sing it

[Chorus]

We've got it goin' on for years [2x]

[Bridge:]
We've been waiting so long
Just can't hold it back no more
(just can't hold it back no more)
Creepin' up and down now
It's time for me to let it go [2x]

Jam on, jam on

Everybody groove to the music
Everybody jam

[Chorus]

We've got it goin' on
